Living in the barren desert where little plant and animal life is abound, SandWings have earned the reputation of being untrustworthy and ready to cheat you out of your last talonful of dates. They have adopted to their environment by developing a lesser need for water and smaller appetites than the other tribes. However, they still have such necessities, and often chose to populate around oasises, as seen in the cases of the Scorpion Den and Possibility. Despite the difficulty to survive in their biome, three heirs and daughters of Queen Oasis managed to ignite a world war over the throne of the SandWings.

With scales anywhere from a light gold to bleached white, SandWings even occasionally are found to have rattlesnake or diamond patterns edging their fan like ridges. Another unique characteristic to their tribe is their barbed tails- much like a scorpion's tail. These are often used to their advantage in fights, seeing as their venom can result in crippling pain, tragic injury, and death. They have forked black tongues, black eyes, and somewhat small horns. They have a sail-like ridge going down their back, and their scales are in a triangular pattern.

The SandWings live in a huge desert, situated between the IceWing Kingdom and the Claws of the Clouds mountain ridge. They normally live around an oasis, and have occasionally built large and prospering cities around them. Their castle is set nearby the Claws of the Clouds, and was turned into more of a stronghold by Princess Burn, who added thick walls and decapitated heads on it.

There is a swath of territory between the Sand and Ice Kingdoms, which is described as rocky and hilly. Princess Blaze promised this land to Queen Glacier in return for her alliance in the War.

SandWings have a rather different culture. The SandWings camping out by the IceWings had very detailed tapestries depicting their home. The stronghold in the desert was also described as artistic, with the pillars carved and the walls dyed.

The Scorpion Den is described by Sunny as narrow and chaotic, with thin streets and merchants selling lots of different things. She sees many merchants selling jugs of water and the brightsting cactus that is the cure to their barbed tails. In the Scorpion Den, a group called the Outclaws held the oasis in the center of the town. They fed dragonets at said oasis and occasionally threw parties by it.

SandWings are often viewed as sneaky and shady, described by Prince Winter as similar to NightWings, but "less smart and twice as likely to steal."

SandWings are the tribe that primarily has to deal with dragonbite vipers.

SandWings, like most other tribes, have the correct coloring to camouflage in their environment. By burrowing into the sand, most of the desert tribe can avoid being seen, unless oddly colored, like Princess Sunny. Most SandWings are also equipped with a poisonous, scorpion-like barb, which they hold like a scorpion and use to sting enemies, which inevitably causes death unless cured by a certain cactus.

SandWings can survive very long periods with no water and have a high heat tolerance, leaving them to be the one of the only two tribes who enjoys their desert environment (the other possibly being RainWings). They can breathe fire at any time and are said to have the strongest hearing, as Queen Oasis could hear scavengers in her treasure many rooms away.
